George Tudorache is the concertmaster of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège and a guest leader with the London Symphony Orchestra. He began studying violin at the age of five under Stefan Gheorghiu and Magdalena Ursu at the “Dinu Lipatti” National College of Arts in Bucharest, his native Romania. In 2007, he continued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. Guided by Jean Jacques Kantorow and Svetlin Roussev, he earned a first prize in violin and a first prize in chamber music in Itamar Golan’s class.
George Tudorache is a laureate of numerous international competitions, including the Rodolfo Lipizer, Colmar, Flame, and Bucharest competitions, and he participated in the 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition, where his semi-final performance was acclaimed by international critics and the audience alike.
He is frequently invited to perform as a soloist and concertmaster with prestigious orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the BBC Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony, the City of Birmingham Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux, and the Opera Valencia, under the batons of esteemed conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, Bernard Haitink, Antonio Pappano, Riccardo Chailly, Kirill Petrenko, Gianandrea Noseda, and Myung-Whun Chung. He has performed in the world’s most renowned concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Vienna’s Musikverein, Barbican Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Athenaeum Hall in Bucharest, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Munich Philharmonie.
A passionate chamber musician, he collaborates with artists such as Menahem Pressler, Thomas Zehetmair, Svetlin Roussev, David Grimal, Lorenzo Gatto, David Cohen, Vladimir Mendelssohn, and Itamar Golan.
His musical journey has led him to explore conducting, making his debut with the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, and subsequently conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège and the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic.
He is also a principal violin professor at the Namur Institute of Music and Pedagogy (IMEP) and regularly gives masterclasses across Europe and Asia. His recording of Philippe Boesmans’ Violin Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège and Gergely Madaras (Cypres, 2019) has received multiple awards, including the prestigious 5 Diapasons.
